I think I made a suggestion once a while back that higher ranks of the dash skill should have a lower fail chance. I thought it was an actual design feature because it was so prevailant.

That sounds very abusable to me, but the idea is deffinately there.

I already use a unique naming system for my important items so that if they’re “aquired” by someone and not renamed, I will eventually find them by examining everyone I see (which I do anyway) and seeing who has it. Upon which, I can “re-aquire” my items. I’ve recovered an entire raid on my shop this way before. :]

The tracking system would deffinately make this faster, but it also seems like it would give ppl more excuses to raid. Say a chais killed me while I was afk, then someone comes around and kills that chaos and I track my items back to their base. Now I’m raiding some poor kid who just happened to get a nice drop from a chaos.

Alright, I did a bit of experimenting with cooking when I started out, so I’ll share what I’ve learned.

For the sake of focus, we’ll assume that the desired creation is as you described.

“So with the right technique, you could create a special dish which completely refills your hunger. […] The dish itself can last a month before going bad.”
Hunger restoration and expiration date seem to be affected by cooking level and time spent cooking. It may be that diversity of ingredients has some affect on this, but I can’t confirm. 10 minutes (or roughly 2.6 full fires at 100%) is the optimal time, according to the wiki. It was suggested to me that exceeding this time limit has no ill effects, unless you exceed 20 minutes of cooking time, in which case your dish “burns”. Again, I cannot confirm this as I havent tested it myself.

Now for the important part… “gives you 2.5x experience, +5 to all skills, and +3 regen/second for over an hour!”
Spice duration is ONLY affected by the number of spices used in the dish (with the exception of caraway, which is more or less useless in cooking). Each spice added increases duration of the buff by 1 minute.
The magnitude of the buff (for example: 1.5x exp vs. 2.5x exp) is affected by the variety of ingredients used and the player’s cooking level. At my puny 30 cooking skill, I have to use 6 different ingredients (water, onion, carrot, lettuce, fish meat, raw meat, eggs, milk, raw lamb, raw mystery meat(?)) in order to achieve the maximum buff from my spices. The spices themselves don’t count toward variety.
EdgyEdgyEdgy, with 100 cooking, can make a maximum magnitude spicy tea (1 ingredient).

More on spices: Black peppers give the exp boosting buff with a cap at 2.5x base xp (stacks additively with other xp bonuses). Honey yields a temporary boost to all skill levels with a cap at +5 in every skill (stacks with gear enchants). Corriander causes your hp to regenerate over time with a cap at 3.0 hp per second. Any combination of spices can be added to any dish, but to not count toward the “ingredient variety” for determining buff magnitude as previously stated.

Finally, food names. The wiki has a chart detailing which ingredients cause different food names. As far as I can tell, however, these names have no real bearing on the effects of the food at all, other than some food names requiring less variety of ingredients than others. They can give insight into which ingredients were used in the food’s creation, however

That’s about all I know in the subject. Hopefully this helped and if I missed anything, let me know and I may or may not get around to editing it. 😀

I was never big into reincs, but I learned a lot from PolarStar when he was playing in USW. As it turns out, reincarnations actually become much slower as you go, rather than faster as one might think. Because of this, it’s advisable to do the slowest skills early on. Skills like explore, repairing, and assassin(if you intend to pvp) are prime candidates and the 2 former will help to speed up gameplay in general for all later reincs.

After that, I personally like a couple of blues in fishing. Fishing is a very slow skill before level 10, and still slow below 20 if you arent very good at tracking down the fish spot. It’s one of the fastest skills in the game once you do find that fish spot, though, and is great for getting your Char-lvl up to use gear. As such, 1 or 2 fishing blues early on can help speed up all following reincs.

Now that SK isn’t a viable option for myst unless you can solo, hunting stars will become very important to the reinc process. You could, for example, get 6 or 7 hunt stars and 4 or 5 archery stars and begin to solo SK for myst after that, but themore people that start doing this, the less viable it will become. Personally, I would try to lvl hunting, your favourite weapon skill *cough* dagger *cough*, and your favourite armor skill evenly through reincs until they all have 6 or 7 stars so that you can reliably use the UW for quick myst on every later reinc.

I would do the hunt skills after the nasty, but necessary ones, like explore(or better yet weave explore blues in with your combats so that early myst isnt an issue), but before you do much of anything else. That myst is super important. But this is all just the setup for whatever blues you really want. When you can reliably get whatever myst you need for your reincs, you become a free man/woman.

You can test the rope thing for yourself. I’d imagine it could only be done if someone had just opened the door and it was within the delay period of the door closing, which would be difficult to pull off.

I’m curious about the floor tile thing too. I’ve been told that it doesnt afffect decay rate, but would also like confirmation from someone else in the know.

I actually have to strongly disagree. When you get to a high level, all of your myst and items tend to come from UW anyway, and it’s not crowded at all down there. While the current death penalties arent very forgiving for the casual player, I think they’re necessary to keep the no-lifers in line. And there are a lot of “no-lifers.” I’m one of them. Perhaps the penatlies could start out less aggressive and scale higher than they currently are, actually. I wouldn’t be too upset about that, tbh.

Actually, I’m on board with what Krill said. A full ability management rework would be very nice. I’ve dropped thousands of gems on repairing enchants for my gear just to try and slow down the pace of the problem and it doesn’t seem to be helping lol. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if abilities weren’t the meat and potatoes of both dps and sustain in uw, but they are.

I agree. It has been a very controversial update, and, persoally, I dont understand why it was implemented in the first place. It seems unnecessary to me, regardless of what the intended goal was.

I trained my heavy to 100 without ever using fountains, duel statues, dogs, etc. I did tank some towers for a few levels, but not for the sake of armor training.

That said, I could see reincarnating on armor skills being next to impossible now that you have to run UW for both myst and armor xp. Hunting, weapon skills, and shield block all level much faster than armor does and that could become a real problem for those who are looking for armor blues.

I’m sorry, but I fail to see how “it used to be worse” is a valid arguement in support of this change being what’s best. You are, of course, entitled to your opinions; but I disagree with the way it’s being argued.

Personally, I still think that either the repair % per hot OR the flint usage should be scaled back. I would even be fine with the repair % being set back to the way it was and flint usage increased to make up for it. The cost to maintain a base, I understand. The extra time spent doing so is more of a pain, in my opinion.

Well said Gnome. And Stephen, you’ve been given plenty of good advice on how to NOT be hunted and killed and you’ve chosen to ignore all of it. It may just be my personal opiniom, but perhaps you should take a good look at why you’re the one getting repeatedly killed rather than any of the other low levels on our server.

Everyone that hits SK once will get the myst, but its common in some servers for high lvls to greif leechers (anyone lower level than themselves) there, so it could be risky depending on your server.

UW fountains can be hard to find, but breaking ither onlbjects in a floor will force-spawn new random objects, so this can be used to help find them faster. Iirc, UW fountains have 5 uses and each one is an instant full-heal, so try to make the best use of it when you find one.

Using healing potions does not yeild healing xp as far as I’m aware. I’d have 100 by now if it did, lol. Finding someone with 90+ healing and nothing better to do than raise your armor skills is no trivial task, either. That said, flame demons only hit about 24 on me, so I’d think 50 healing would be enough to outheal one. The healing rain spell and potions can also be used to supplement your healer’s healing.

Beyond all that, very good guide, Harlem!
