Its funny I was just thinking about this last night, and I know its been suggested before so I hadn’t suggested again recently, but, perhaps more people rallying for something will make it more of a priority.

I have to spend considerable flint repairing our base and that’s been doubled because I also installed a wall separating the external facing towers from all but tribe Elders. If there was an option to keep recruits and/or members from touching the towers to begin with I could have definitely saved on resources (though there are other merits to having walls within walls within walls).

While its important to screen people carefully before letting them into any tribe, I find myself not actively recruiting because we have a lot of semi-unsecured items that I don’t want walking away (we’re hoarders…). If I could have options to have recruits-level doors I would likely create recruit housing with basic necessities and we determine that people are a good fit for *our* group move them into member roles and access to the “better” items (emphasis because I’m not saying people bad for our tribe are bad, just saying their play style would be better served elsewhere). Having this option would allow us to bring more people into our tribe with less risk, which would keep them safer from the world at large (Texas is a rough place sometimes) and encourage them to play for longer, which would benefit the game in general.

So, I see no con’s to this, only pro’s:

    1) more tribe recruitment
    2) less drama with less things going missing / happier leaders
    2) happier safer players
    3) more money towards the game as people thrive, play, and buy supporter
    4) less building resources needed to keep up with double walls (and smaller base footprints in general)
    5) less repair resources needed to keep up with double walls

I’m not entirely sure either, I never understood the logic in it. You have to get to a higher level before reinc later, but, that’s still no that much more challenging imho.

I have not done it myself, but I’ve been told running circles in UW3 is the easiest place to do it. And also been told that its best to get it out of the way early on and that its really, really boring. It’s pretty cool to be able to move swiftly though.

It IS tedious, which is why I’ve always found it helpful to add other features to the area, like training dummies, or digging clay, or we have a user who does his knitting while watching the chickens. It IS tedious, even though the payoff is good, I think some of us that feel compelled to pick things up off the ground (….we are a clan of hoarders) find it slightly exciting but it’s not for everyone.

scarecrows would be awesome, even with like a high decay rate or something, or maybe being able to put a dog in the farm to prevent something from spawning (not with the expectation that the dog would fight the mob but rather that the mob just wouldn’t show up. though being able to put a dog on guard (which has been proposed before by others) would be super helpful too. It would encourage people to train their dogs up towards being useful while offline. )

its never boring in Texas lol 🙂 You do have to have some patience sometimes cuz it can seem a little lawless. In general we ignore the trolls & griefers vs actually chasing them off, but overall we have some good times and there’s some excellent tribes here. And LOTS of land at the moment, due to recent events.

nice ideas, I agree that you can’t ever suit everyone with the timing, even based on location lol, I keep really odd hours. But I like Asylum’s idea of maybe earning points towards some goal, the quest system exists but its mostly about killing mobs and that’s not everyone’s thing. Perhaps instead of installing something new they could just consider tweaking what’s already there to make it a little more skiller friendly.

I’ve found that once I’ve taken the time to talk to people that things tend to improve. It is sadly not true for everyone, there’s always a person or two who doesn’t understand the concept of diplomacy or calm or who makes it their personal mission to drive as many people off the server as possible (which may be a conspiracy, lol, or perhaps they’re just jerks) over some perceived slight, however, in general, rational minds prevail, and can sometimes even bring the less rational around. Texas is not all sunshine and roses, Texas is not all smiley glad hands, Texas is not a good place for Care Bears, Texas is not a safe place to pretend you’re playing minecraft – but its also not a dictatorship, its never boring, and its full of awesome people. If you have a bit of a thick skin and some patience its an awesome server, and after having checked out a few of the others, I’m glad I put some time and effort into prevailing through the grievances and having the patience to see where we got to, and hope to continue to have the patience to see through to the future. So far Texas has reaffirmed my hope in things in general.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience on Texas, however it’s not always like that, there is still some competition and in general the high levels don’t target the low levels. The person who was killing you is a known troll who shows up rarely and tries to drive people off the server in general, and isn’t indicative of your average day on Texas. It’s not all like that. My tribe actually sent a few people out to try to help take care of the issue as we find it concerning as well.

I will freely admit that you have to have a bit of a thick skin on texas, people WILL kill you, and people will likely rob your base if you don’t adequately protect it, however this is a PVP game and its par for the course (and can happen on any server). Getting raided means you learn how to protect your things, getting killed encourages you to grow or find a safe tribe with good diplomacy to protect you. There are no care bears here lol but there ARE some genuinely nice people.

I’ve never seen a mod on any server (was only briefly on a few though..), so I think the lack of mods is kind of a global thing. I do also agree that it would be great to have some sort of countdown that the server is about to reboot, though, I once got thrown into an abandoned farm with no weapon and a level 20 something chaos and got cornered trying to find an exit – I was literally 4 steps from my bed when we crashed. Which, isn’t the end of the world, but just a simple countdown would be nice

without any means of tracking that someone has sold their account it can cause conflict with the others playing the game, and could possibly cause an entire tribe to become undermined leading either a) multiple people to quit or b) multiple other tribes to attack them, leading multiple people to quit. While I can see how selling an account benefits the person who created the account, it has zero benefit to the rest of us, and as a whole, I feel like it is a detriment to us all in its current form.

If the selling of accounts is not considered a rule violation then people should be able to approach the admin directly to say hey, I’ve sold my account. Admin could then choose to notify the server via some mechanism (like we have with leveling and IP sharing), and perhaps a cooling off period could be implemented to give the players tribe a chance to remove the player from their rolls and safeguard the sellers items (though, in all honestly, it seems more likely that the tribe would steal their items, so perhaps the items with that persons name could be teleported out into some sort of neutral holding tank…this could also backfire, at which point i just don’t know what to say, people are freaking dishonest lol). A sold account would then have no tribe access, the person who built the account gets to benefit, the person buying the account benefits, and we all get to welcome a new player into the server without a bunch of drama.

Cend’s point holds a lot of water, though, too, if the Admin were to set up a mechanism for account selling, he could in theory be held somehow culpable for any tax issues that arise. That, coupled with all the work that would have to go into game mods to make the idea friendlier makes me agree that making it a rule violation at this point might be better, with a consideration for building a mechanism to allow for it in the future.

they’re only cute when they’re little though – eventually they grow up and start chewing up your walls and shoes and so you have to “send them to the farm” meaning you drive them far off into the countryside to “roam free” and then they chew through *my* walls and kill me in my sleep. just a bad idea all around 😛 I need my rest

there’s nothing wrong with texas lol, as long as you can stand the occasional raid or random death 🙂 its never boring!

In any case, though, if you feel like your level is stuck you may need to make sure you upgrade your “skill mastery” under upgrades. This will allow your skill levels to exceed 10.
