New release HYPE! Sneak peek of some changes

sampleitems2Hope everyone has been having a great holiday! We’ve been hard at work here at Mystera HQ crafting a new experience for players based on the 2016 beta. Thought you all deserved an update with information on some of the changes you will be seeing soon:

New Client

The client has had its first rewrite to prepare for the next few patches. Several placeholder graphics are already replaced, and all new sound effects (and music) are on the way. As it is easier to acquire and produce 16 pixel wide sprites we are slowly transitioning everything to have that nice consistent resolution which fits perfectly on a phone. The loading bar and scrolling chat box have been rewritten and incorporated into the game window. A directional pad for the left thumb has been added to make movement easier, and the other buttons have been positioned for the right thumb. The interface is being re-themed a bit and the chat field now has a toggle icon for local, global, tribe, and tells. A splash screen is in the works where you can log in or make a new character if needed. You will be able to test out an initial release of the new client fairly soon.

Large Inventory

No more worrying about which gems to take back with you – just how many! The new inventory system has a large amount of space but is limited by your weight capacity, which can be upgraded using the new upgrade shop.

Logging out

Now by default when you close the game you will log out with your items after a short time. This will be more familiar to casual players just looking for quick adventures now and then. For players who are a little more intense and willing to secure their goods in a house and log out in their own bed, they will stay in game and enjoy some long term benefits. For instance, increasing their level cap the next time they reincarnate based on how much ‘net worth’ they keep in game. You can build up your in-game assets right now to get ready for this! More details to come on all these mechanics.

Reincarnation

There will be no more skill experience reduction, instead there is an ever increasing level cap. Additionally when you reach the level required for reincarnation you can choose to rebirth your character in exchange for several permanent levels in your top skill. These skill levels will not count towards your overall level cap, so you can eventually become an expert in every weapon and armor category starting from level 0. The numbers for all of this will be released in a future post. Angel dust mechanics are staying the same for now.

Upgrade Shop

One of the most fun updates to the game is the addition of an upgrade shop where you can spend a new currency to improve your character in various ways. These special points are collected from killing NPCs throughout the world. You may choose to kill small things multiple times or venture farther to find more difficult creatures for bigger bounties. After collecting enough of the little blue spirits that emerge from your kills you can buy several upgrades like damage, cooldown reduction, better regen, HP increases, weight capacity increases, and so on.

World Map Update, Iron Age, and more..

The world will be growing beyond ‘Galebrook’, the emerging town at the center of Mystera. As NPCs of higher levels can be generated in distant places, new classes of weapons & armor made of iron (and even more powerful materials) will be needed. Some game processes will be reworked a bit (like farming) and we are planning new ways to customize your home like with furniture, carpet, potted plants, and banners.
