Double Experience, Dungeon Recall, and Bone Piles

depth_recallDouble experience!? Yep, it is experimental for now but you will level twice as fast. The last casual patch had some great results with PvP and death penalties and I feel we are moving in the right direction by reducing grind and allowing people to catch up faster. But wait, there’s more!

The new dungeon recall tile can be found occasionally in the underworld. This will set a recall point and allow you to use the new ‘Depth Recall’ potion (gold, scale, dye) to continue an underground adventure. If you die the memory of the floor you saved will be erased.

Bone piles! The database needs some clearing out and you can help! Fallen heroes have died with their items forever.. until now. If you find a bone pile in the underworld you can loot it for a good chance to retrieve an item from a dead player. The deeper the floor the better results usually – especially if you are looking for high level player loot.

One thing that interests me as a game developer is the idea of the psychology of a change versus the raw results. The experience curve increase from long ago has shown great results but I believe the feeling and presentation of it, among other things in the game, needs work. To start I have removed the past level 50 change in the skill curve and incorporated it smoothly into the entire leveling experience. You probably wont notice much, except that you are leveling twice as fast of course 🙂

I finally finished my dungeon monster/object generation algorithm – thanks for your patience with the temporary solution I had in place. You should see a smoother progression overall with less clusters of the same type of monster. Now featuring rarity rolls, not just difficulty rolls – so there will be a few surprises here and there. This will be nice for adding rare monsters in the future.

Wood tables can spawn randomly underground, for the underworld denizens to dine at. This means you can harvest wood (sometimes you will get resources from bone piles as well). Which is to say that you can now do a real hardcore mode character where you go straight to the dungeon and live off of what you find. Don’t have a weapon? Well now you can do a small amount of damage to structures with your fist. While you don’t get experience for it, this will be a great way for newbies to get out of a simple house they have boxed themselves in.

Here are some other changes in this update:

  • Lock gold cost reduced to 1.
  • Item/equipping bugs on death are hopefully fixed now.
  • Increased decay of structures by 1%.
  • Increased decay chance of open floor tiles by a decent amount.
  • Road decay is unchanged.
  • Underground decay now matches the overworld.
  • Other minor changes in text and loot drops.

Thank you for testing as always. Looking forward to the next patch. Now go shape the world!
